Free GIF to MP4 Converter Any GIF to video, frame for frame

Convert a GIF to MP4 online, free, right in your browser. Every frame keeps its own timing, the pause on the last one included, and the video usually comes out several times smaller, often a tenth of the GIF. Play a short GIF up to 10 times in a row, add up to 20 at once, and download them with no watermark and no signup.

Quick answer

How to convert a GIF to MP4

To turn a GIF into a video, drop the GIF into the box above, choose how many times it should play, and press the button. Your browser rebuilds every frame as H.264 video with the GIF's own timing and hands you an MP4 that phones, chat apps, editors and social sites all play.

  1. Choose your GIF
  2. Pick how many times it plays
  3. Download the MP4

Why use this GIF to MP4 converter

Most places that take video refuse a GIF, and a GIF is the heaviest way to send a few seconds of animation. An MP4 fixes both, as long as the conversion keeps every frame and its timing.

Private GIF to MP4 conversion

By default the GIF is converted in your browser, not uploaded to our servers. The MP4 is built on your device and downloaded from there.

Every frame on its own timing

A GIF gives each frame its own delay. The converter reads them all before it encodes and keeps them, including a long pause on the last frame, which converters with a fixed frame rate cut short.

Usually a fraction of the size

Video predicts each frame from the one before and spends its bytes on what moves, which a GIF cannot do. A GIF cut from real footage usually shrinks several times, often to a tenth; a flat, simple animation shrinks less.

Play it more than once

A GIF loops by itself; a video plays once. Repeat a short GIF 2, 3, 5 or 10 times to get a clip of a few seconds, joined without a second encode.

An MP4 that plays everywhere

H.264 video with standard colour tags, the MP4 that phones, browsers, chat apps and editors all open. Up to 20 GIFs in one batch, each keeping the setting it was dropped under.

Going the other way? Video to GIF turns any clip into a looping GIF.

Only need part of the clip? Trim the video after converting.

How to turn a GIF into a video in three steps

Three steps, in your browser.

  1. 01

    Pick your GIF

Drop up to 20 GIFs into the box above, or tap to browse your device. Any animated GIF works, from Giphy or Tenor or your own screen recorder.

  2. 02

Choose how many times it plays

Once keeps the GIF as it is. Pick 2, 3, 5 or 10 plays to turn a short loop into a longer clip.

  3. 03

    Download your MP4

Your browser reads each frame's delay, encodes the video and hands you the file. Save each MP4 or grab the whole batch as a ZIP.

GIF vs MP4: what changes when you convert?

A GIF is a stack of pictures on a palette of 256 colours, each shown for its own delay; at best a frame redraws only the patch that changed. An MP4 stores the same pictures as video, predicting each frame from the last, which is why it is usually much smaller and why every video site takes it.

Where GIFs come from

  • Giphy, Tenor and meme sites
  • Screen recorders and GIF makers
  • Chat and email attachments
  • Old animations and stickers

Where an MP4 wins

  • Instagram, TikTok and other video sites
  • Video editors and slideshows
  • Websites, where it loads faster
  • Anywhere a GIF is refused or too big

Frames on a 256-colour paletteNo sound

The frames are re-encoded as video, so the GIF's pictures and timing carry over while its size shrinks. Nothing is added that the GIF did not have.

What people turn GIFs into videos for

A GIF is easy to find and hard to post. These are the everyday jobs this page handles.

Posting a GIF on Instagram

Instagram posts take video, not GIF files. Convert the GIF, play a short one a few times so the clip runs a few seconds, and post the MP4 from your camera roll.

Sending a GIF on WhatsApp

Send the MP4 and it plays as a short clip in the chat, at a fraction of the GIF's weight.

Using a GIF in a video edit

iMovie, Premiere, CapCut and most editors import MP4 without trouble, so a reaction GIF can sit in your timeline like any other clip.

Faster web pages

Swap a heavy GIF on a website for an MP4 that plays muted and loops: the same animation for a fraction of the bytes.

Saving a GIF as a video on iPhone

Convert it in Safari and save the MP4 to Photos, where it plays as a video you can trim, share or post as a story.

A GIF too big to send

Email and chat apps cap attachments. The same animation as an MP4 usually fits where the GIF did not.

Slides and presentations

PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides play an MP4 cleanly, and you decide when it starts.

Private by design

By default, your GIFs are not uploaded

Many online GIF converters upload your file to a server, convert it there and let you download the result. This tool converts the GIF inside your browser, so on the default setting the file never leaves your device.

If you switch to the Cloud, the GIF is uploaded, converted on our servers, kept for the time you choose and then deleted. Until you do, a private GIF or a screen recording with your data on it stays where it is.

What this means

  • We never receive your GIF
  • We never store your GIF
  • No account needed
  • Converting speed depends on your device
  • Very large GIFs need more memory
Quality

Will the video look like the GIF?

Yes. The frames go in as they are and come out as high-quality H.264, each on its own delay. Three small things change, all because of what video is.

Every MP4

The GIF's own timing

The tool reads every frame's delay first, then lays the frames on a frame rate that shows each one on time: the GIF's own rate when its delays are even, up to 50 frames a second when they are not. A pause on the last frame stays a pause.

Built in

Colour, edges and transparency

Video stores colour at half resolution, so a fine one-pixel coloured line can soften slightly. Video also needs even sides, so a GIF with an odd width or height loses one pixel at the edge, and transparent areas turn white.

Best for, and not ideal for

Best forNot ideal for

Social sites and chat appsStickers that must stay transparent
Shrinking a heavy GIFAdding sound: a GIF has none to keep

Browser-based GIF to MP4 vs upload-based converters

FeatureRemove AudioTypical online converter
Upload requiredNo, by default the file stays on your deviceUsually yes
WatermarkNeverSometimes, or on the free plan
Account neededNoSometimes
Frame timingEvery delay kept, the last pause tooOften one fixed frame rate

Very large filesDepends on device memory, or the CloudDepends on upload and file caps

Fair note: because converting runs on your device, a very large GIF depends on your browser's memory. The Cloud side of the switch takes the ones this device cannot hold.
