Remove Audio was born from a simple frustration: every time we needed to mute a video clip, the available options were either bloated desktop software, sketchy upload-based websites, or mobile apps riddled with ads and watermarks.

As a team of developers and content creators, we knew a better approach was possible. Modern browsers support WebAssembly, which lets heavyweight tools like FFmpeg run directly on your device. We wrapped that technology in a clean, focused interface that does one thing exceptionally well: remove audio from video.

Since launching, Remove Audio has helped thousands of creators, educators, social media managers, and professionals quickly prepare silent footage for platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and more—all without uploading a single file to a server.

Remove Audio is powered by FFmpeg.wasm, a WebAssembly port of FFmpeg—the same open-source multimedia framework used by professional video studios worldwide. When you drop a file into the tool, your browser loads a compact WebAssembly module that handles all processing locally.

The audio track is detached from the video container without re-encoding the video stream. This preserves the original resolution, bitrate, HDR metadata, and visual quality. The result is a byte-for-byte identical video—minus the sound.

Because nothing is uploaded, your files stay private and the tool works even on slow connections once the page has loaded. This architecture also means we don't need expensive server infrastructure, which is why Remove Audio can remain completely free.
