How to cut an MP3 online
To cut an MP3 online, drop it into the box above, drag the two handles on the waveform to where the clip should start and end, or type the times, and press Trim audio. With no fade added, an MP3 or M4A is cut without re-encoding, so the clip keeps its original quality. Your browser makes the cut and hands you the file, and your audio is never uploaded.

- Set the start and end
- Trim and download
Why use this audio trimmer
Most online MP3 cutters upload your file first, cut it on their server and send it back. This one cuts in your browser instead, so there is no upload to wait for, no watermark on the result and nothing to sign up for.
Free MP3 cutter, no watermark
Cutting on this device costs nothing and needs no account. The clip you download is clean, and your original file stays exactly as it was.
Cut audio online, with no upload
Your browser reads and cuts the file itself, so it never leaves your device. That suits voice memos, interviews, lectures and anything else you would rather keep to yourself.
Exact times, to a fraction of a second
Find the spot by ear and by eye on the waveform, then fine-tune it by typing the start and end, like 1:23.5. Press Start here or End here while it plays to set a handle on the beat.
Trim any audio file
MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG and Opus files come back in their own format, and a straight MP3 or M4A cut is not re-encoded at all. Drop a video and you get its sound as an MP3.
Fades and ringtones built in
Fade the start in and the end out, take a part out of the middle, or save the clip as MP3, WAV or an iPhone ringtone (M4R), all before you press Trim audio.
Works on your phone too
Use it in Safari, Chrome or any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Mac or Windows, with files up to 1.75 GB on a computer and 600 MB on a phone. Bigger files go to the Cloud.
Only need the whole soundtrack of a video? Convert the video to MP3 in one step.
How to cut audio in three steps
Choose the part you want and download it. Nothing to install.
- 01
Add your audio
Drop an audio file into the box above, or tap to browse your device. MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG and Opus all work, and so do videos, up to 20 files at once.
- 02
Choose the part to keep
Drag the start and end handles along the waveform, or type the times, like 1:23.5. Keep that part, or choose Remove this part to cut it out of the middle. Every file keeps its own times.
- 03
Trim and download
Add a fade in or out if you like, and pick what to save it as: the same format, MP3, WAV or an iPhone ringtone. Press Trim audio, then download your clip, or every clip at once as a ZIP.
Supported inputs and outputs
| Input | Output |
|---|---|
| MP3 | MP3, not re-encoded unless you fade or remove a part |
| M4A, AAC | The same format, not re-encoded unless you fade or remove a part |
| WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus | The same format |
| MP4, MOV (video) | An MP3 of its sound, or the trimmed video |
Your audio comes back in its own format
An audio trimmer should give back the file you gave it, only shorter: an MP3 stays an MP3 and a WAV stays a WAV. MP3, M4A and AAC store sound in short frames that can be cut apart without decoding, so a straight cut, with no fade and nothing removed from the middle, copies them as they are. Everything else is encoded again in its own format, losslessly for WAV and FLAC. Save as turns any cut into MP3, WAV or an iPhone ringtone.
Cut as it is
- MP3: the frames are copied, so the sound is the original's
- M4A and AAC: copied too, voice memos included
- On a straight cut: no fade, nothing removed
- Done in a moment, however long the recording
Encoded again
- WAV and FLAC: written again, still lossless
- OGG and Opus: encoded again at high quality
- The sound of a video: saved as MP3
- Formats like Apple Lossless or WMA: saved as MP3
The cut keeps the file's own format; Save as changes it.
What people cut audio for
Most audio cuts are small jobs: a ringtone from a favorite song, the one minute that matters in a long voice memo, a clean start for a podcast. These are the everyday ones.
Make an iPhone ringtone
Pick the best few seconds of a song, add a fade in and out, and choose iPhone ringtone under Save as. You get an M4R file of up to 40 seconds, Apple's limit for ringtones.
Trim a voice memo
Cut the shuffling before you start talking and the long pause at the end, or keep just the minute that matters from a meeting. A memo's M4A file keeps its original quality.
Shorten a WhatsApp voice note
Save the voice note to your device, drop the .opus or .ogg file here and keep the part worth forwarding. It comes back as Opus, or choose MP3 under Save as to play it anywhere.
Tidy up a podcast
Cut the false start, trim the intro music to length or take out a cough in the middle with Remove this part. A WAV or FLAC master stays lossless.
Cut a song for a video
Keep the 15 seconds of a track you want under a Reel, a TikTok or a slideshow, with a short fade at the end so the music does not stop dead.
Keep the key part of a lecture
Cut an hour of lecture or interview down to the explanation you need for revision. Long recordings are fine: a straight MP3 cut takes a moment, however long the file.
Cut audio without uploading it
Many online audio cutters upload your file to a server and cut it there. This one reads and cuts the audio inside your browser, on your own device.
Unlike upload-based cutters, Remove Audio never receives a file you trim on this device, so a voice memo, an interview or a track nobody has heard yet stays yours. The Cloud is there for files your device cannot hold, and it uploads only when you switch to it.
What this means
- We never receive your audio
- We never store your audio
- We never inspect your file
- A fade takes a little longer than a straight cut
- Very long WAV recordings need more memory
Cut MP3 without losing quality
A straight cut does not touch the sound of an MP3: it copies the original frames into a shorter file. Only when the sound itself has to change, for a fade or to join the two sides of a removal, is the part you keep encoded again, once.
MP3 and M4A, untouched
MP3 and AAC audio is stored in frames that last a few hundredths of a second each. A straight cut copies whole frames without decoding them, so the clip sounds exactly like the original and starts within one frame of your mark, a fraction of a second. WAV and FLAC are cut just as precisely and stay lossless.
Smooth edges, encoded once
Fade in and Fade out ease the start and end so a clip does not burst in or stop mid-note. Because a fade changes the sound, the part you keep is encoded once more, in the same format at a high quality setting. A removal joins the two sides with a very short fade, so the join does not click.
Best for, and not ideal for
| Best for | Not ideal for |
|---|---|
| Cutting a song, memo or podcast to length | Mixing tracks or adding effects |
| Ringtones for iPhone and Android | Removing several parts in one pass |
| Private recordings you would rather not upload | Songs locked inside a streaming app |
| MP3 cuts with no re-encoding | Splitting one file into many tracks at once |
In-browser vs upload-based audio cutters
| Feature | Remove Audio | Typical upload-based cutter |
|---|---|---|
| Upload required | No, the file stays on your device | Yes, before you can start |
| Waiting for transfers | None, the file is cut where it is | Upload, then download the result |
| Watermark | Never | Sometimes, or on the free plan |
| Account needed | No | Sometimes |
| MP3 cut without re-encoding | Yes, on a straight cut | Often re-encoded |
| File size | Up to 1.75 GB on a computer, bigger in the Cloud | Capped by the plan's upload limit |
| Several files | Up to 20, each with its own times | Usually one at a time |
Fair note: because the cut runs on your device, a very large file depends on your browser's memory, and a fade on a long recording takes longer on a slow phone. The Cloud side of the switch takes the files this device cannot.

Drop your MP3 into the box at the top of this page, drag the two handles on the waveform to where the clip should start and end, or type the times, and press Trim audio. Your browser cuts it and you download the result. A straight MP3 cut is not re-encoded, so the clip keeps the original quality.
